Trump Accuses President Obama of Siding with Terrorists, And the New Media Shrugs it Off? That is

I post opinions at least once a week here. Often I write about politics or media coverage of politics -- two subjects I have followed closely for more than 30 years.

That's It: Trump Has Now Conclusively Disqualified Himself from the Presidency

Think about it:  Donald Trump, in the past few days, has refused to say if he thinks President Obama is a Muslim or not.  Also, in a interview with NBC's Chuck Todd not long ago, Trump refused to give his view on whether the President was born in the United States.
Trump, of course, is one of the nation's most prominent "birthers."  A few years ago, he attracted enormous attention and controversy when he openly doubted that Obama was born in Hawaii - the President's birthplace.
It was disappointing - then - that so many print, television and online media chose to barely mention Trump's past role as a "birther."
It is very troubling and - just plain wrong - now - for so many in the media to continue to disregard Trump's bizarre view toward the President's birthplace and religion.
Many believe Trump's "birther" position amounts to racism.  Questioning the nation's first black President's "citizenship" - nearly seven years into his Presidency - certainly raises questions about Trump's motivations.
No matter what motivates Trump, however, his position on Obama's birth certificate and religion, to me, should bring down his candidacy.  Trump, by continuing to hold his public  position toward Obama, is basically saying to all voters:  "I don't have to acknowledge important realities - including the President's citizenship and religion.  I'll acknowledge or disregard whatever I want.  I don't have to acknowledge realities clear to all of us."
Trump might has well have said he refuses to acknowledge if the sun exists.
There is no question about Obama's status as a US citizen or Christian.
Trump ignited a firestorm a few days ago when he chose to not respond when a man in the audience at a speech of his complained about Muslims in the US and stated that Obama was a Muslim.  In interviews since then, Trump has essentially refused to discuss his own view on the President's religious status.  (He did say, in one quick exchange with Chuck Todd on Meet the Press Sunday, that he'd take Obama "at his word" that he's a Christian, but, on other occasions, Trump has refused to discuss the topic).
Trump has found success by running a uniquely "different" campaign for President.  We all know what he's done by now.  Yeah, he can be funny at times, but Trump has also said so many false, distorted, outrageous things that it'd require 20 blogs to address all of them. Some have been objectionable enough to raise questions about whether Trump passes the most minimal standards for seriousness, legitimacy, decency, fairness or empathy toward others.
In the past few days, though, Trump crossed a big line.  He's now asking all of us to "accept" his bizarre views toward the President.  He's not accepting truths about Obama and he's asking us to just let him do that.
Sorry, Donald.  I don't accept you doing that and I don't think millions of other Americans do, either.
The news media, if they actually take their truth-seeking tradition at all seriously, will keep prodding Trump to acknowledge President Obama's citizenship and religion.  If they did, it'd likely drive Trump out of the presidential race.
Trump has thoroughly disqualified himself as a presidential candidate.
